Former Dutch Politician Joram Van Klaveren Speaks Out About the Growing Issue of Islamophobia

Former Dutch politician Joram Van Klaveren has spoken out about the growing issue of Islamophobia in an interview with TRT. “Islamophobia, a lot of people think it’s a far right thing and of course it started in the far right,” Van Klaveren stated, “but it’s also a very leftish thing nowadays.”

Van Klaveren, who was a member of the Party for Freedom from 2010 to 2014, served as a member of the States-Provincial of Flevoland and focused on issues related to desegregation, employment, egalitarianism, and emancipation. Despite gaining notoriety for making anti-Muslim comments, Van Klaveren later converted to Islam while writing an anti-Islam book. After his conversion, he decided to refocus the book on his own journey towards religiosity and the process of converting to Islam. The book, titled “Apostate from Christianity to Islam in times of sécularisation and terror,” was published in Dutch and English.

Van Klaveren went on to explain that left-wing organizations used to be supportive of Muslim communities and minorities, but now they are becoming more Islamophobic due to their beliefs. “They don’t have the same arguments as the far right,” he noted, “but in the end, the result for us as a community is the same.” He emphasized that this is problematic not only for individual Muslims but also for the Muslim community as a whole, as it leaves them with little support in countries with mixed governments that include both right-wing and left-wing elements.

Islamophobia is a growing issue that affects Muslims in various countries. It is often thought of as a far-right issue, but it has also become prevalent on the left. This leaves Muslims caught in the middle, facing discrimination from both the far right and left-wing groups. This is problematic not only for individual Muslims but also for the Muslim community as a whole, as it leaves them with little support in countries with mixed governments that include both right-wing and left-wing elements.
