His daughter shared a photo on Instagram of family members with him, and his death was later confirmed on his Twitter account.

Pelé is widely regarded as one of the greatest football players of all time. He won three World Cups with Brazil from 1958 to 1970. He scored a reported 1,283 goals in 1,367 professional matches. He played for both Brazil’s Santos team and the New York Cosmos.

His skill and technique on the pitch earned him the nickname “The King of Football.” Pelé was a key player in Brazil’s 1970 World Cup win and is remembered for his ability to score goals from seemingly impossible angles.

In addition to his sporting achievements, Pelé was also a pioneer in the sport. He helped to popularize professional football in the United States through his time with the New York Cosmos. After retiring from professional football, he served as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and as an Extraordinary Minister for Sport in the Brazilian government.

Pelé was also involved in various charitable and humanitarian efforts throughout his life. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by the United States government in 1994 for his contributions to the sport and to society.
